Father John Misty

My next offering was given to me by a friend of ours and the more I listen to it, the more I like it. It comes from Father John Mist and is titled "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings". Came off their debut album  "Fear Fun" which dropped in May. Love the video, however, every time I watch it, I need to shower and burn my clothes. If you like getting weird, press play.

Night Moves "Country Queen"

Night Moves debute album 'Colored Emotions' just hit the streets a couple days ago and this is the best track. Not the usual type of music we post around here, but I've been listening to it a lot for over a month (got the early release over a month ago, obvi) and figured I had to post it. Looking forward to checking out their live show next week, I'll let you know how it goes.

Aeroplane "Not-So-Monthly October Mix Tape"

Leave it to The Bones to absolutely knock his debute out of the park!!(and deep on the Mass Pike)
The Kiiid's just entering the blog scene and crushin', a pure natural some might say. Now that we have a heavy hitter dropping gems on this piece it's time that Mr. Music gets back to business.

I've always been giving love to The Magician on his monthly mix tapes, but this month I'm going to switch it up and introduce you to Aeroplane, an artist very similar to The Magician and Holy! Ghost. Looking to groove out in the shower? Maybe throw on some jams while cleaning the house? Well then, this mix is just what the doctor ordered. Hope you got some time cause this puppies over an hour.
Enjoy!

"Ya Never Know"

Just out two days ago comes "Ya Never Know" off of the album "Friends" by Terraplane Sun. These boys are from Venice, California... have a feeling Mr. Music might be gracing one of their shows with his presence soon. Sit back, spark up, slide through and enjoy this little gem.

Bonefizzle Picking Up The Slack!

Since Mr. Music has been slacking (understandably) in recent days on keeping this blog up to date with fresh jams, I've decided to pitch in and put up a few posts for the cause. My inaugural post is featuring a brand new Rudimental track featuring John Newman and Alex Clare (Too Close ring a bell anyone?). Sure to be a classic follow up to their smash single "Feel The Love" (click link to be blown away if you haven't heard it)...... hopefully Mr. Music's "Not Giving In".

Bob Marley "Sun is Shining" Remix by Funkstar Deluxe

Flashback Friday is baaaaaaaaaack!!!!!
This one hits close to home, I feel like I should gas up the car just in case we head up to New Hampshire for a after hours to the wee hours of the morning! Just a straight classic from back in the hay-day!

P.S. You know it's been a while when you don't even remember the real name to your special Friday rendition of older songs because I was waaaay off, but I'm sticking with the new name now because it comes off the tongue waaaaay smoother..............
Not to mention the word Flashback explains my past waaaaaay better anyhow :)

Timid Tiger "Hangin' In The Sun"

So if you've seen me lately then you can see how much time I've been "Hangin in the Sun" by the pure chocolate thunder that I'm bringing, even my irish friends are calling me OH, TANNY BOY!
This is a fresh track from a German band that's been around since 2002, the video was released over this summer after their album came out. Hope you like.

The Magician "Magic Tape 25"

The kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid is back!!!!!!!!!!
After an amazing summer and a liver that needs some rest I would like to announce the 25th Magic Tape!!!!!
Not gonna lie, at one point this summer I thought the ole Magician was done with making the magic tapes, but leave it to the Magic Man to have a couple tricks up his sleeve!
This particular post is dedicated to my favorite couple in this world, two people that can turn this mix on from the beginning and dance to the weeee hours of night at their favorite watering hole =Brando's: (the easiest place to crawl home from in their case).
So turn up the volume, take off the clothes, and bust a move chi-town.

Gentlemen Hall "Makes Me Feel Alive"

This is my favorite REAL Boston Band at the moment.
Gentlemen Hall have been grinding it out for the last couple years and it seemed that WFNX was going to take them under their wind and expose them to all of their listeners, but we know how that turned out and now FNX is no longer...............what a shame.
Anyhow, I believe that this band is going to be the next Foster the People type band that goes from a great local band to the next super band that is Global! They just need the exposure by touring around the country and playing their awesome live shows. How could you not like them, they're pretty much a boy band that can actually play great tunes. I give them one more album and BOOM instant rockstars.

Bombay Bicycle Club "Light Out, Words Gone" & "Shuffle"

This could be my favorite band of the summer because I cannot get enough of them!
It took me forever to figure out which song to post so I figured I'd post my favorite two!

Capital Cities "Safe and Sound"

Here is a L.A. band that needs some East Coast love. I should've checked these guys out when a buddy of mine told me to when he saw them at South by Southwest crushing it, then he introduced me to their manager and still I slacked and forgot to give it a listen......
Well today I stumbled upon them while I was listening to a playlist on Spotify and holy shit they blew me away, makes me want to stop being such a slacker.
Capital Cities apparently met on craigslist and the rest is history, I guess craigslist isn't just for killers, yard sales, and searching for the opposite sex that isn't charging too many "rose petals".
Once they hit the East coast these guys will blow up, mark my words. Enjoy :)

The Magician " Magic Tape Twenty-Four"

Funky Friday Throwbacks The Whitest Boy Alive "Golden Cage" Fred Falke Remix

So Funky Friday Throwback is coming on a Tuesday this week because I'm a slacker. Worth the wait though for two reasons:
1. This song is a gem
2. The original is pretty sick as well
Actually three reasons.......
3. The Whitest Boy Alive turned out to be one of my favorite artists as a result.

So enjoy both!
These guys are the coolest nerds I've seen in quite some time

Deadmau5 Speaks

Interesting Article by Deadmau5:
Click ME to Go To Link

I feel like I've been to a million live shows that DJ's put on and sometimes I wonder if they are really doing anything up there. I guess at the end of the day if you had a good time and rocked out then what does it really matter. This article pretty much sums it up, which makes me think that I should go out and buy these machines that he's talking about so I can travel the world making filthy money and having millions of fans that rage on my behalf.

The Magician "Memory"

The Magician just downloaded this track about an hour ago, Boston Music Itch is starting act like a legit blog with the quickness of this post, not to mention I'm on fire today!!!!
So I obviously am breaking this one out in the Pimp Dungeon when I'm lathering up in the shower before I hit the streets tonight for a VIP Foster the Peeps Show.
Great jam, the title is something thing that I've been loosing lately, I wonder why?

RAC feat. Penguin Prison "Hollywood" (THE MAGICIAN Remix)

Let's face it, The Magician is one of my favorite new artists. I've been posting his "Magic Tapes" every month and will find a way to see him this summer. Yesterday he remixed a song that I posted earlier this month (RAC feat Penguin Prison "Hollywood"). He knocked it outta the park-Enjoy!

And while I'm at it, here is his monthly "Magic Tape Twenty-Three"

Graffiti6 "Stare Into The Sun"

Great song. Sounds like the new wave of Electric Guest/Fitz&Tantrums style.

Klangkarussell

If I owned a coffe shop or retail store this song would be the soundtrack

Electric Guest

I can't get enough of this band. I literally love all of their tunes so I had to share a few of them.

The Magician Magic Tape 21

Here is the Magician with his new Magic Tape #21, he recently changed his logo with the double fist pump. I dig it, but the 80's classic  Miami white suit did him justice too.
How do we get this guy to come to Boston? He's going to NY, Chicago, Philly, San Diego, Dallas, Denver, And San Fran in early June, but no Boston?

We need to change that.

I guess we have the Mix Tapes to tide us over until he does.

Enjoy

Note:(If you live in one of these cities you might be seeing me on your couch)

Zach Deputy @ the Middle East Friday 2/24/12

I got a chance to interview Zach Deputy back in January 2008 when I with with Eyes on the Back Door. EOTBD was pretty much an idea at this point and we went to do a weekend tour with him in Georgia. He was a one man band, a master looper, and toured up, down, and everywhere. Well, he's still touring like a champ, but this time around he's with a whole new band and I think a few of them are local Bostonians.

I caught the show in Florida at the Culture Room earlier this month on 2/9/12, (or the last hour and a half of it, I was on vacation and still hung over at 10p.m. curled in the fetal position in the back of my buddies car, Florida can do that to you). They sounded like they've been for together for years, you guys are in for a treat. I can't wait to see it from the beginning :)

Note: I took this picture backstage and could only muscle down 2 beers at the show, I eventually recovered  and listened to jams at Kappeli Compound until the wee hours of the night.

Zach's new record Another Day,Released: September 2011 is about transformation and change, and let me tell you he's matured into a versatile musician. I had a friend ask me what type of music it was, I told him awesome music, it's too tough to pinpoint, he's all over the place, in a good way, a very very good way. But if you insist on a description this is what he calls his music:
Island-Infused Drum N' Bass Gospel Ninja Soul,
ya, that is Awesome.

My favorite is song "Home" from his first album, you can download for free on his website with a bunch of others: Free Home Download

His new album you can stream for free if you enter your email:
NEW ALBUM STREAMING

Make sure you don't miss this show. It's his first time around with a band and they're meshing big time.
Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Middle East downstairs, get your tickets here:

Who knows maybe you'll hear the Chicken Pot Pie song, every time he plays it makes me hungry.

Jesse Dee

Ok, so it's killing me that I have a blog, a boston blog at that, and I haven't blogged anything about my favorite Boston artist. As a matter of fact, I'm his #1 fan, (there are plenty of folks in Arlington that can argue that), but let's agree to disagree.
Jesse Dee could take up a page on this blog, and I'm sure he will someday, but I had to throw some videos of him up here while I'm on a blogging tear today! That makes it four for the day, almost professional over here.
Here it is. My favorite song from Jesse has always been "Yet to Come"(below), ever since I heard a raw acoustic version he record in a bathroom back in the hey-day(if I can find a copy I'll post it immediately), but I also had to post this solo performance of "Over and Over Again"(above) he did in Amsterdam in 2009, it's (earmuffs) fuckin' sick, I just listened to it on repeat about 10 times in a row. His voice runs right through your veins like a drug, I'll take 2 please.
Trust me this is NOT going to be the last time you see a Jesse Dee post, it's very possible he could get a daily update on this blog, that's how much we believe in him. It baffles me that he isn't a household name.

He's up for a New England Music Award, you can vote up to Feb 29 VOTE FOR JESSE DEE

Check him at Precinct on Sat March 3, sick line-up for a great cause a win win in my book.

We'll be making music at
Precinct (Somerville, MA) on Sat March 3.
All proceeds go to Dana-Farber cancer research.
Tickets are available in advance.
Please e-mail Jeff Wallace (jrwallace18@gmail.com)
 if you'd like some.
I hope you can join us!!!!

Ken Yates

This kid is modern day James Taylor. This song is for real men out there.
I'm talking man enough to pull an umbrella wheel in your cocktail, pinky out.
I saw Ken Yates at the Steve Katsos show tonight, he was playing with a just as talented Brian Dunne. I believe they both went to Berkeley, not a shocker. He gave me his CD, I just listened to it and was going to just put a track up from that, but I think he sounds even better live. Gave me goosebumps, has nothing to do with his lyrics hitting deep to home. I think I'll post the show I saw tonight and replace it when it comes out , but here is something for now. Can't get it out of my head.

The Magician

My favorite day of the month. These Magic Tapes keep on getting better!!!!!
Here is the 20th anniversary special, sure to be the best 47 minutes of your day!!!

Dirty Ghosts

I had to get up and start dancing midway through this song, just came out this week, I'm feeling it.

Of Monsters and Men

LOVE this song!
The first time I heard them I instantly thought of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I wouldn't be surprised if it was this summer's "Home", it's got a real nice anthem vibe to it. I bet after they tour this spring/summer they will be a household name, a long way from being some great band from Iceland that no one has gotten the chance to hear. And when I say no one I mean around a solid million hits on youtube.
As a matter of fact, I got a text from some nut-job named Boneface to check it yesterday and low and behold I had Shazamed a month ago on January 18th. Kiiid, gotta love it when you beat somebody to the punch, especially some fruitloop from Slumberville. But hey, speaking of whackos look at me, I'm pretty much talking to myself on this blog, not one visitor yet.

I don't know if Of Monsters and Men realize what fame is about to come their way, but they deserve it.
Not too shabby that the bands show was moved from the Brighton Music Hall to the Big House (HOB), goes to show that the Boston peeps know a good tune when they hear it.

Of Monsters and Men are playing the Boston HOB on 4/07/12 and tickets are still available. This show is NOT to be missed, get tix here: BUY OF M&MTIX

If you like this song I strongly suggest you check out this live version of them playing it in a living room, it'll reassure that you need to see them live when they come around, here's that link: Watch living-room version

Note: I love Somerville, so please no hate mail. Somerville's cool especially the fire-fighters, so if your a hot chick go down to Engine 9 and ask  a bald headed guy for a date, he needs one bad.

Ponchos

I heard this song on Hype Radio and had to share it- Little did I know this is our own local talent, Boston-based PONCHOS (James Krivchenia). He drops a sick new track "Chatter" that is set to come out this Tuesday 2/21/12. Can't wait to see it live.
You can download the album Right Time EP here: NEW ALBUM
